Abstract

AbstractThe laser Raman scattering from calcified regions of diseased cardiovascular tissue samples dissected from the coronary arteries and aortic valves was measured. The spectra reveal the characteristic vibrational features of the phosphate grouping in the solid state. Spectral features for the calcified artery segments and aortic valves are compared for details of the chemical and structural makeup of the calcific lesions.
