Abstract
This paper treats the optimization problem of detecting the presence of a signal in a background of white Gaussian noise, under the restriction that the signal is specified exactly but the receiver memory contains only a noisy version of the signal. The optimum receiver is specified. The performances of both the optimum receiver and the cross-correlation receiver with a noisy memory are calculated and compared for a special case.
