Abstract

A protein that binds Concanavalin A (Con A) was detected on Western blots of Spiroplasma citri proteins. Its apparent molecular weight was 84000. It was localized in the plasma membrane. Affinity chromatography on Con A-agarose was used to isolate this protein. The glycosylation inhibitor, tunicamycin, inhibits S. citri growth and seems to block the glycosylation of the Con A-binding protein.
