Abstract

Makrofol plastic track detectors have been exposed to 238U-ions of energy 17.17 MeV/n at UNILAC, Darmstadt (West Germany). The bulk etch rate and track etch rate are measured for different temperatures and the activation energies are calculated. The maximum etched track length of 238U-ions has been experimentally measured. The surface-etching and over-etching corrections have been applied to the observed track lengths in order to obtain the true track lengths. The observed true track length has been compared with theoretically measured track length using a computer code DEDXH.
