Abstract

Electrical power system mainly consists of three parts such as generation, transmission & distribution. At present days the electric power infrastructures have been subjected to many forms of natural and malicious physical events which can have adverse effect on the overall performance and stability of the grid. So detection and locating the point of fault in power line is very necessary for healthy operation of power system. A good protection scheme aims to identify the location of faults and to isolate only the faulty section in order to minimize the damage of the existing equipment in power system. To study the applicability of the wireless sensor network in power line monitoring and admonitory system, a prototype model of distribution line is designed based on current sensors and wireless protocol. This paper describes the implementation of wireless monitoring, detection and process of locating faulty node. ACS712 Hall effect current sensor is used for their better compatibility and quick response time. Zigbee module is used for WSN while XCTU software is used for its configuration.
