Abstract

Detection and localization in single channel ultra-wide-band (UWB) through wall Radar system (TWRS) provides only range information of the target. It is difficult to extract azimuth information from target due to the wide beam of the antenna. In existing literature, multi-channel systems are used to solve this problem. But, these system require complex hardware and higher cost. A single channel UWB system will ultimately reduce complexity and cost, as it required less number of antennas to facilitate reduced processing time and complexity for both free space and through wall operation. This paper proposes a novel method for localization in a single channel UWB system. The range and azimuth angle of target are obtained based on the position and received intensity of target. These features are compared with a pre-designed reference matrix for a given system. Moreover, detection methods specifically in single channel stepped frequency continuous wave (SFCW) TWRS are thoroughly discussed.
