Abstract

This work proposes an innovative scheme to detect and locate Non-Technical Losses (NTLs) in Low Voltage (LV) distribution grids where an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is present. The advanced methodology leverages the information (e.g. electrical measures) provided by the Smart Meters (SMs) installed at the costumers' premises to perform, in the first algorithmic step, the detection of NTLs and, in the second algorithmic step, proceed to their localisation. Even in the presence of an AMI, the Distribution System Operator (DSO) frequently does not have all the data that characterizes the LV network (e.g. branches' physical parameters). Nonetheless, the proposed method is applicable even when most of these characteristics are unknown. A case study of a real LV network is assessed to validate the adequacy of the advanced methodology.
