Abstract

IN the course of measuring, in air, the surface potential change produced by the deposition of a monomolecular layer of fatty acid on a polished stainless-steel plate, transient changes of potential were observed, due to the passage over the plate of vapour impurities in the laboratory air. Some quantitative measurements of this effect have been made, particularly at low concentrations, thus extending the earlier work of Frost1,2.
