Abstract

This chapter reviews work conducted by the authors over the last few years attempting to detect the climatic response of the solar 11-year cycle signal in the Earth's temperature field. After explaining the multivariate regression technique used we present our results, namely that there is a faint response to the solar cycle and its amplitude is roughly what we would expect (few hundredths of a degree C) based upon simple energy balance model estimates. The detection is at about the 25% significance level.
