Abstract

Smart homes are one of the most growing areas of the emerging Internet of Thing technology. Most smart home users usually implement their smart home environments, which contain IoT smart devices from various manufacturers. Three major problems, in such a heterogeneous IoT devices environment, are interconnected, controlled, and security. We believe that to avoid the frustration of using multiple applications to control different smart devices from different commercial bands, users opt to implement a single control gateway, also called a smart home system gateway, and use only one application to control all smart devices in their home automation system. In this paper, we present a lightweight security handshake protocol to detect security violations that affect those smart devices connected to a smart home system gateway.
