Abstract

Application of electrolysis etching under non-heated condition for detecting of macro structure of metals was investigated. In case of carbon steels and low alloy steels the hydrochloric acid aq. was observed to be proper as electrolyte, and in case of stainless steels and high nickel alloy the hydrochloric acid methanol was observed respectively. This method has such merits as improving the working environment and also treating the waste acid with less difficulty comparing with the conventional method which uses more concentrated acid under heated condition. Furthermore especially as far as these materials like high nickel alloy which are hard to be etched are concerned this method permits us easier detection of their macro structure.
