Abstract

83209Bi is neutron activated, giving 2.7 ms half life 83208mBi. The bias of the reaction is 7 MeV. A detector constituted by a photomultiplier and a plastic scintillator surrounded by a bismuth shield has been built. The electronic associated allows for the measurement of the bismuth activity. The counting is made between pulses. The time between pulses must exceed 70 ms. Sensitivity is approximately 10−1 pulse for 1 n cm−2.
