Abstract

The motivation for the work presented in this paper is to understand and characterize the behavior of titanium based metal matrix composites (MMCs) subjected to shear and to multiaxial stress states. For studying MMC behavior under shear, Iosipescu tests were conducted and analyses of the tests were performed. To study behavior under multiaxial stress states, detailed analyses were performed of off-axis test data reported in the literature. The results suggest that the information procedure by detailed analyses of these tests can be effectively used in characterizing global composite response under fairly general multiaxial stress states.
