Abstract

The restoration and the care of monuments damaged by people and time are based on a cultural path rooted in the principles of conservation and on advanced technical knowledge that includes constantly evolving applications. No restoration project can begin and make sense without careful historical research, without direct verification of archive documents, without the ability to read the so-called "direct documents". A case study is the restoration of the Fortress of Arezzo, Italy, a XVth century fortification. A second case is that of an analysis and restoration process of a long stretch ofancient walls in the historic city of Suzhou in China.
