Abstract
Studies indicate that the scientific debate around the application of intelligent principles to tourist destinations has been intensifying, however, its domains of interest for the scientific advancement of the subject are still under construction. This work aims to map the theoretical and domain structure of the field of intelligent tourist destinations (ITD) to reflect on the current research agendas and possible theoretical-methodological gaps. A systematic review was conducted in a sample of 28 journal articles indexed in the Web of Science, with the support of bibliometry. The main results indicated that the network of the most cited studies is grouped into five clusters; five most frequent agendas are detected; and the centrality of the theme on the European continent is observed according to the origin of the authors and the journals. However, the theme of sustainability is not adequately studied, evidencing a gap in researchs; and are also overlooked the concepts to support the development of smart tourism in practice.
