Abstract
AbstractBanathy (1996) states that it is ethical to designwithothers rather thanforthem. In this essay I explore the distinction from the perspective of complexity science and adopt the view, at least metaphorically, that human individuals and groups are complex creative systems, which under some conditions will self‐organize. I argue that such phenomena are not truly autopoietic, but subject to the influence of their systemic environment, which in human terms may include respectful, caring others. Creatingwithcan be called homeopoietic action and is a primary ethic for evolutionary guidance in many contexts and at many levels. The focus here is on change in organizations.
