Abstract

A new systematic offsite review process has been successfully pioneered in the UK. It can be applied at the earliest stages of a building project to assess the feasibility and value of different offsite construction systems. The process uses the latest digital design methods and presents information in a way best suited to aid impartial decision making. This paper describes the technical background to the process and its constituent tools, the psychology of decision making and how designing with data can overcome cognitive biases. It explains how the offsite design process is fundamentally changing with digital design tools, and introduces an innovative decision dashboard to help clients make the right offsite choices.
