Abstract

This paper presents the algorithm and results of designing optimal frequency sequences for Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Bandwidth Synthesis (BWS) in VLBI experiments conducted jointly by Chinese Deep Space Stations (CDSS) and Chinese VLBI Stations (CVS). The optimization algorithm based on global search is intended to get lower peak side lobe level of delay resolution function and larger normalized Root Mean Square (RMS) bandwidth, both of which are totally determined by the frequency sequences. Since the effective receiver bandwidth is quite different for CDSS and CVS, compatible frequency set is taken into consideration in the algorithm. The effect of the loss of a channel of the frequency sequences on their performance is also evaluated.
