Abstract

Filter has a very important function in communication system and being area of interest for many decades same is used in tremendous number of applications such as filtering of required signal in demodulator, frequency multiplier, diplexer etc. The main requirement of filter is to have minimum insertion loss as well as return loss in pass band along with miniaturisation of size and reduction in weight for achieving the same a kind of new topology namely dual mode resonator filter is designed, simulated and fabricated. In order to minimize the size, concept of stepped impedance resonator is employed. Design equations are derived using mathematical modelling of ‘dual mode resonator’ and ‘stepped impedance resonator’. Subsequently performance of the filter is characterised across the temperature range to qualify the circuit for spacecraft applications.
