Abstract

Radar on ships is one of the devices needed to assist ships in supervising and navigating territorial waters in securing state sovereignty. To support this technology, an antenna is needed. In this study, a four-element rectangular patch microstrip array antenna with a working frequency of L-Band for ship radar is designed using impedance adjustment to match the antenna impedance with the characteristic impedance of the transmission line. The design begins with calculating the dimensions of the antenna. The dimensions of the calculation results are used in the simulation process. To get optimum results, optimization is conducted by changing the dimensions of the designed antenna. From the simulation optimization results, the four rectangular patch microstrip array antenna has a VSWR of 1.27, a return loss of −18.36, a gain of 8.82 and a bandwidth of 28MHz.
