Abstract
Buckling of column web was responsible for failure of a large number of bolted end plate connections tested at the University of Abertay, Dundee. The British Standard BS 5950 and the draft European Standard EC 3 contain design rules for determining the resistance of unstiffened column web of bolted beam-to-column joints subject to local transverse compression. These design rules are appraised by comparison with the test results.
