Abstract

Abstract Design problems for the fiber-reinforced composite materials having the required effective stiffness and strength properties are formulated and solved. The developed method is based on the analytical solution for the effective moduli of the high-stiffness, fiber-reinforced composite material obtained using the asymptotic homogenization techniques. The set of prescribed effective moduli for which the design problem is solvable is described, and the effective method of the design parameters calculation based on convex analysis is developed. The design problem is generalized on account of strength of composite material. The problem of design of a maximum strength composite material is formulated and solved. The effectiveness of the developed approach is illustrated by the numerical examples.
