Abstract

Light collection e.g. from scintillators by systems using light conversion in fluorescent materials is discussed in detail. Especially the influence of optical contact media, reflectors and of light attenuation is considered. Fluorescent acrylic glasses were found to be very well suited for such light collection systems - numerous experimental data are presented. A comparison of the light collection yield of a converter with common scintillator systems is presented. Interesting properties of a converter system e.g. for scintillation counting are the great possible reduction in the cross section of a light bundle and the high compactness of the design.
