Abstract

The design of a solenoid operated diesel injector for gaseous fuels is modified to incorporate a much smaller actuator. To achieve fast dynamic response of the new injector, a novel switching circuit is designed that incorporates a capacitor to control the electric current through the solenoid coil. The mathematical model of the injector needle motion and solenoid force generation during a transient process is established. A multiobjective optimization technique is applied to the simulation model to select values for the design parameters that result in an injector with optimum dynamic performance.
