Abstract
In order to enable the demand responsive program which is in the extension of the smart grid, a smart and wireless home energy management application plays a key important role. Therefore, in this paper, first the smart demand responsive energy management system under ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 based wireless communication is proposed. As the focus of this paper, the hardware design and implementation of a multiple nodes ZigBee based wireless sensor network are discussed. The communication protocol and software design for both wireless sensor network node and base station based on the CC2430 system on chip are also presented in detail. The analysis of demand response potential in term of time-of-use (TOU) pricing without enabling technology program in Thailand scenario is also investigated. Finally, by using the proposed load characterization and load prioritization under the concept of smart home energy management system, the bill savings benefits of demand responsive program can be proved while the target of energy saving is also achieved.
