Abstract

Wavelength-division multiple access (WDMA) and subcarrier frequency-division multiple access (SFDMA) techniques can be used to form a hybrid WDMA/SFDMA scheme for lightwave networks. An examination is made of the architecture and performance issues of such networks. Optimization of network performance in the presence of noise, distortion, and optical beat interference is presented. These results are used to determine the appropriate number of WDMA and SFDMA channels. >
