Abstract

This chapter deals primarily with the design of two-dimensional digital recursive filters. Specifically, the design of two types of recursive filters ; quarterplane (QP) recursive filters and half-plane (HP) recursive filters. Many of the recent results on their design are presented. The chapter is organized as follows : in Sect. 3.1, we briefly introduce the idea of QP and HP filters. The different types of QP and HP filters, their stability properties and implementation are discussed there. Section 3.2 contains a detailed discussion of two algorithms for the design of QP filters. These two methods are restricted to special types of QP filters. In Sect. 3.3, a design method for the general class of stable QP recursive filters is presented. The design of nonsymmetric half-plane (NSHP also known as semicausal) recursive filters is considered in detail in Sect. 3.4. A brief summary and conclusions are presented in Sect. 3.5.
