Abstract

Abstract The 8.7-km-long Shinjuku Line forms part of the Central Circular metropolitantexpressway, Japan's first underground highway. The Central Circular Line will aotal approximately 20 km when it is completed at the end of this century. The paper describes the project within the context of the Tokyo metropolitantarea's existing and future traffic needs.
