Abstract

The concept of an intelligent machine which generates creative design is presented. First, the general design process is described based on the design axioms. According to the axiomatic design concept, four steps of a “thinking design machine” are described; definition of functional requirements (FRs), creation of design parameters (DPs), analysis of design solution, and check of final solution. Computer software which deals with each one of the four steps is discussed, me database required for the design process is also discussed. Using the database or working interactively with designers, the system synthesizes the design solutions which satisfy the functional requirements defined by the designer. The system then analyzes the proposed design solutions based on the design axiom 1 (Independence Axiom). When there are many acceptable solutions, the system evaluates them based on the design axiom 2 (Information Axiom). Finally, the system selects the solution with a minimum information content them based as on the best design solution.
