Abstract

There are always some mistaken data in the wired transmission system or in the wireless-transmission system. The error data must be correct for improving the communication quality. There are many Error Correction Code (ECC) techniques to correct the transmission data and to reduce the mistaken data. In spite of the fact that the ECC technology can be done with the software, but it is better that to implement the ECC technology with an IC because IC hardware can work without other complex associated hardware and quicker manipulation speed. Hamming Code is one of ECC technologies; it is very simple and has the ability of correcting one bit error. The present paper combines the algorithm of Hamming Code, Very High speed Description Language (VHDL)-the language of the hardware description, and a FPGA chip to design and synthesis an IC that can do Hamming Code encoding and decoding. The simulation and the experiment results show that this Hamming Code chip that we designed can correct the one bit error data efficiently.
