Abstract

There are no standards available in designing the number of Switch Socket Outlets (SSO) requirements in a room. Allocation of the number of SSO is normally based on the design engineer’s experience. Thus, getting of the number of SSO required becomes a problem. In practice, the method that the design engineer used is through common sense and logic. Allocation is done arbitrarily. However, this method is not systematic. Thus, we use a different approach in this paper. This paper evaluates room dimension as compared to the number of occupants in the space. Using a very simple algorithm and programming language C, the required number of SSO can be obtained. This approach is more systematic than the existing method by also taking into account the requirements from the existing standards and regulations available concerning the provision of SSO installation in buildings.
