Abstract

A novel combination of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) and Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) is proposed. The FSS operates in its Stop-Band and acts as metal conductor plates of the SIW. The Substrate Integrated Waveguide using Frequency Selective Surfaces in Stop-Band (SBFSS-SIW) preserve the propagation properties and the dimensions of the conventional SIW, and have periodic isolated pads that could allow the direct integration of biased active and passive devices on the SIW surface. A set of SBFSS-SIWs for X-band have been designed, simulated and experimentally measured to demonstrate that SBFSS-SIWs can behave similar to conventional SIW structures.
