Abstract

This paper presents a stand-alone photovoltaic power generation system with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and intelligent charging and discharging. The system uses single ended primary inductor converter(SEPIC) chopper circuit to form the direct current-direct current (DC-DC) module. Then the system uses MPPT algorithm with a combination of constant voltage tracking and perturbation and observation to automatically adjust the DC-DC module working state, so that the output power of photovoltaic cells approaches the maximum power point. The system uses segmented charging methods which include the maximum power point tracking charging method, constant current charging method, constant voltage charging method and floating charge method. By testing the system, the system can improve the efficiency of the photovoltaic cells by about 25%. The system can run stably and reliably.
