Abstract

Due to the growth of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, various services have been developed. Among different types of IoT technologies, one of the representative examples is smart home environment that has made it much convenient to live as IoT technology started being applied to humans. In addition, smart home environment has been utilized in many fields with related services due to rapid development of the smart home market. Smart home automation that has been rapidly growing in the smart home market communicates by providing the least requirement of the computing function along with the least amount of security compared to the network used in other fields. Therefore, a secure authentication phase is required among devices in the smart home automation network in the use of the least amount of computing function. This study is intended to design mutual authentication protocol that is secure and optimized among devices in the smart home automation network and suggest efficient authentication technique based on zero-knowledge proof instead of the use of secret value between sensor node and home gateway to solve an issue of security threat.
