Abstract

In this paper, a new remote elderly health monitoring system is presented based on MEMS sensors, which can monitor the movements of human body, recognize a fall from activities of daily living(ADL) by an effective algorithm quaternion combining with thresholds and automatically send messages for help to the relatives and remote health monitoring system. By means of the MEMS sensor, Bluetooth wireless communications, and GPRS remote communication technology, the information of the elderly fall and posture can be obtained by the real-time monitoring and remote transmission technology. The hardware of the proposed system mainly includes fall detection and alarm module, communication controller module. According to the change of the elderly fall acceleration and angle, thresholds fall algorithm is used combining with the MEMS combination. The experimental result shows that this algorithm can effectively improve the accuracy of the fall detection and real-time alarm and remote monitoring.
