Abstract

This paper presents the design of 8×8 quasi-Yagi dipole phased array antenna at Ku-band with an inter-element spacing of 0.65λ at the centre frequency of operation. Emphasis is given to study the dominant characteristic of the phased array i.e grating lobes, active scan return loss vs scan angle, gain vs scan angle, beamwidth vs scan angle and d/s curve vs scan angle. The design of the array is aimed at achieving maximum scan angle of ±45° in the E-plane and that of ±30° in H-plane with active scan return loss of each element always under -10dB within the scan volume. The triangular grid lattice has been adopted to increase maximum scan angle of the array in E-plane. Results mentioned in the paper show that we have achieved maximum scan angle of ±45° in E-plane and that of ±30° in H-plane with each element active scan return loss always under -10dB. Array design is carried on substrate RT6006 εr=6.15 of thickness 15mils.
