Abstract

• Synthesis of triazole allied aromatic organosilane for detection of Ce 3+ ions. • Synthesized compound was well characterized by IR, NMR, LC-MS and elemental analysis. • The detection limit for Ce 3+ turns out to be 2.00 ppm. • The binding of Ce 3+ was successfully authenticated by IR and NMR. • The stoichiometric complex of synthesized sensor and Ce 3+ was 1:1. In the present article, we have reported the synthesis of chemosensor based on pyrene functionalized triazole linked organosilane by employing the condensation and 1, 3 dipolar cycloaddition reaction. This chemosensor showed its selectivity and sensitivity towards Ce 3+ ions in comparison to other metal cations. The prepared receptor and its complex with selective cation, Ce 3+ ions were characterized using spectroscopic techniques such as CHN analysis, FT-IR, theoretical studies, 1 H and 13 C NMR and mass spectroscopy. The recognition studies were done in methanol: water (7.5:2.5) solvent system. The obtained limit of detection for the present probe was as low as 2.00 ppm and 1:1 stoichiometry of complex formation between Ce 3+ ions and organosilane was suggested by B-H graph and Job's plot.
