Abstract

Active public participation and co-operation of civil society are crucial for effective warning of geologic hazards. It requires the realization of a web-based system that enhances the complex processes of communication, education and dissemination of geologic hazards. In this paper, the methodology of a public participation geographic information system is discussed. The primary categories of interaction process essential to such a system are identified and a generic system model is presented. Based on that, a prototype system was implemented. Given these basic requirements, issues are discussed on how to perfect the public participation geographic information system for geologic hazard warning.
