Abstract

For the requirements of low-jitter and long working-life triggered gas switches in actual conditions, the polycyclic type gas switch is designed, combining with the gas switch of three electrodes. Breakdown characteristics of trigger switches, the structure of their main electrodes and trigger electrodes are flat-polycyclic, flat-disk, and spherical-disk, are tested. The test results prove that, under 5.0kV∼7.5kV loading voltage, the flat-polycyclic type switch is more stable. The breakdown time delay of flat-polycyclic type switch are 81.0ns∼84.5ns, and the breakdown time jitter are 0.8ns∼1.1ns, that shows better performance than flat-disk type switch and is almost identical to that of spherical-disk type switch; but the working life of flat-polycyclic type switch are longer than spherical-disk type switch.
