Abstract

This paper gives a design method to allocate straightforwardly poles of controllers of strongly stable generalised minimum variance control (GMVC) systems using symbolic computation software. Strongly stable control system has not only stable closed loop systems, but also stable controllers. To design the strongly stable systems, we need to specify both the poles of closed-loop and poles of controllers. To specify the controller’s poles, so far there does not exist a straightforward method and only the trial and error method that exists. To allocate the poles directly, it is required to calculate design parameters from given desirable poles, that is, to solve several equations analytically. To calculate equations analytically, this paper proposes to use symbolic computation software. GMVC has similar mathematical method to model predictive control (GPC) and has simpler mathematical expressions than MPC. Hence in this paper, symbolic computation software is applied to the design of GMVC.
