Abstract

A low-profile circular polarization-reconfigurable antenna based on hybrid periodic metasurface is proposed in this paper. The antenna is composed of a cross-dipole loaded by four PIN diodes and a hybrid periodic metasurface. The grounded cross-dipole can reconfigure two 45° and 135° linear polarizations (LP) by switching the ON and OFF states of the loaded PIN diodes. The hybrid periodic metasurface with different patch-size could transform the two reconfigurable LP into two reconfigurable circular polarizations (CP), i.e., right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) or left-hand circular polarization (LHCP). The simulated results show that the −10dB impedance bandwidth of the CP reconfigurable antenna is 2.45 GHz ~ 3.14 GHz (24.7%), the axial ratio bandwidth is 2.72 GHz ~ 2.92GHz (7.1%), and the realized gain is 8.54 dBi.
