Abstract

The paper presents the energy, carbon, and financial savings resulting from the use of lighting controls and use of renewable energy for the lighting system of select buildings in the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India. A system has been developed to control lighting using motion sensor and corresponding analysis has been done for the potential energy, carbon and financial savings that can be made, if the system is deployed. A typical analysis has also been presented on solar PV fed corridor lighting system and the payback period is done for the use of solar panels to power the lighting of the select buildings.
