Abstract

With release of the ldquoFirst Report and Orderrdquo Feb.14, 2002, by the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC), the power spectral density of UWB for indoor/outdoor communication devices is defined. From that, the signal used in UWB system has power spectrum with ultra-wideband, which implies very narrow pulse in time domain. The shape of monocycle pulse plays important role because it affects the performance of the UWB system, therefore, designing band pass filter (BPF) for shaping the generated UWB monocycle pulse to fit the FCC rules is one main blocks of UWB transmitter. This paper concerns the design of microstrip BPF using coupled half-wave resonators with a pass window of 3.1 to 10.6 GHZ at a center frequency of 6.85 GHz , passband insertion loss ripples 0.2 dB, minimum stopband attenuation of 20 dB on silicon substrate using IE3D EM simulation platform.
