Abstract

Modelling of vertically coupled five micro ring resonator (VCFMRR) is carried out in Z-domain as an optical add-drop filter (OADF). Design is done by delay line approach and transfer function of the system is evaluated by Mason's gain formula by representing the system according to signal flow graph theory. Then its characteristics are evaluated in MATLAB by determining free spectral range (FSR), crosstalk, Group Delay (GD) and Dispersion (DP). Wide FSR and negligible crosstalk with proper GD and DP characteristics prove its capability as a high speed optical add-drop filter in communication system. Its real-world performance is also evaluated in Opti-System software where exact open eye diagram proves its applicability in optical communication system. Performance evaluation by eye diagram is the uniqueness of VCFMRR model.
