Abstract

On-load tap changer (OLTC) is the important component of on-load tap changing transformers. It can maintain the stability of voltage by adjusting the tap position without interrupting the load current. Due to the carbonization and oil pollution of conventional OLTC with oil switching, vacuum OLTC with permanent magnetic actuator has been developed. To guarantee the speed and reliability of the OLTC, the permanent magnetic actuator (PMA) is applied in vacuum OLTC. The structure of permanent magnetic actuator is simple since it only has a single moving part. The moving part is connected to an armature and driven by electromagnetic force produced by coil. To meet the requirements of the vacuum OLTC, the static and dynamic simulations of permanent magnet actuator are carried out in this paper. The finite element model of PMA is established and the static characteristic of permanent magnet actuator is simulated applying this model. On the basis of the static characteristic, dynamic characteristics of PMA are simulated with Simulink. The experimental results of permanent magnetic actuator show that the dynamic characteristics of PMA are stable for the OLTC action. The capacity and the switching reliability of the vacuum OLTC are remarkably enhanced. The electrical life as well as the maintenance interval of the vacuum OLTC has been extended.
