Abstract
Printed designs are well known because of their conformai aspects which permit simple combination with the planar PCB's. This paper includes the design of multi-band microstrip patch antennas. The design of multi-band antennas includes dual-band, tri-band and quad bands covering various wireless frequency bands such as GSM (900MHz and 1800MHz), ISM (2.4GHz and 5.8GHz), WiMAX (3.5GHz) and WLAN (5.2GHz). The simulations are performed with commercial electromagnetic software IE3D. The multiband antennas were realized using FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.4, substrate thickness of 1.6 mm and loss tangent of 0.02. The measurement of return loss and radiation pattern is carried out for the fabricated multi-band antenna. The measured results closely resemble the simulated results. The simulation and measured results are presented only for quad-band antenna due to space constraints.
