Abstract

In the present era, development of wireless communication is taking place rapidly which requires an antenna with wide bandwidth and better radiation pattern. Log periodic antenna is one of the solutions to achieve wide bandwidth and better radiation pattern. In this paper, we design the wideband toothed log periodic microstrip antenna having the center feed which gives wide bandwidth, and again optimizing the same antenna by making a slot of 6 × 4 cm at end of arm which improves the bandwidth of 0.1 GHz, the slot structure reduces the cross-polarization and also maintains the bi-directional radiation pattern and co-polarization. Based on the comparison between the two simulated results, we fabricated the antenna having a slot structure, simulated and measured results are presented and discussed in this paper, and they are in close agreement with each other. As we focused on navigational application, due to wideband, the antenna covered the all three navigational bands low L (1.166–1.289 GHz), high L (1.554–1.612 GHz), and S band (2.482–2.502 GHz), so when compared to different reported multiband global navigational antennas, the proposed log periodic microstrip antenna covers the all three GNSS frequency bands. It also gives a gain of more than 4.5 dB at entire frequency band which is acceptable for high-precision GNSS application.
