Abstract
In this study, a compact ultra-wideband (UWB) two-layer printed microstrip line monopole-slot antenna with triple band-rejection characteristics is investigated. The proposed antenna consists of a planar UWB monopole-slot antenna with a size of 40 × 47 × 1.016 mm3 and a modified half-mode substrate-integrated waveguide (M-HMSIW) cavity with folded defected ground structure slot. The antenna is fabricated using two-layer printed circuit board process. To generate band-notched characteristics, M-HMSIW cavity in the bottom layer of the antenna are utilised. By tuning the dimension of M-HMSIW, triple notched bands with sharp rejection can be achieved at WiMAX band (3.3–3.69 GHz), along with a major part of the C-band (3.7–4.2 GHz), lower wireless local area network (WLAN) band (5.15–5.35 GHz), and upper WLAN band (5.725–5.825 GHz). The simulated and measured impedance matching, radiation patterns and gain results of antenna are investigated. The results of the fabricated antenna show that this antenna is a good candidate for various UWB applications.
