Abstract

A compact size Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wideband antenna for mobile handsets is presented. The proposed antenna operates over 1.9 to 3.7 GHz which satisfies most of the wireless communications such as Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Worldwide Interoperability For Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) handset devices. The size of the radiator antenna is 10 × 17.7 mm2 and a T shape and ladder shaped parasitic elements are introduced. The antenna having four branches with a strip feed, are symmetrically placed with respected to the T and ladder shaped parasitic elements. The parasitic elements are placed on the ground plane. By the help of parasitic elements, a better isolation of the radiator antenna is achieved. The overall performance of the antenna in terms of s-parameters, current distribution and radiation pattern is measured. The results obtained by the proposed antenna shows that it has attractive physical properties of compact in size and has good performance in terms of isolation, return loss, radiation pattern and current distribution.
