Abstract

A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) end-fire antenna is proposed and analyzed for achieving wideband dual circularly polarized radiation performance. Wave-polarization is realized through constructing a two-layer SIW polarizer. The sloping slot etched on the common broad wall of the stacked SIWs could gradually induce a horizontally polarized electric field with a certain phase shift. Furthermore, in order to solve the poor performance of the SIW polarizer, additional substrate is extended in front of the polarizer aperture. The loaded substrate acts as not only impedance transformer but also polarization compensator. Results indicate that the designed antenna operates with a wideband 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 17.6% ranging from 17.6 to 21 GHz. Stable end-fire radiation patterns can be obtained in the whole operating band.
